Pre-trade checklist: the most common reasons accounts breach

A simple checklist of the rules to check before and during trading so your account does not breach.

Most breaches come from the same few rules. Use this checklist before you open a trade and while a trade is open. It only repeats the rules, it is not trading advice. The most common breach is Max loss limit exceeded: your live equity touched the floor.

Quick checklist

  • ✅ Know your floor: your highest point minus the MLL.

  • ✅ Watch your equity, not only your balance.

  • ✅ Check Current on your dashboard.

  • ✅ Stay inside the max contracts of your account size. 1 mini = 10 micros.

  • ✅ No hedging: no long and short at the same time on the same or correlated instruments.

  • ✅ Everything closes at 4:45 PM ET. No overnight or weekend holding.

  • ✅ Open at least 1 new trade inside your inactivity window. Missing it is always a hard breach.

  • ✅ After a breach you can reset the same account or buy a new account. You have a limited time to reset. Check the time left directly on your dashboard.

1. Know your floor

The Max Loss Limit (MLL) is the only loss rule. Your floor is your highest point minus the MLL. The floor only goes up, never down, until it locks. There is no daily loss limit.

Size

Max Loss Limit

Starting floor

$25K

$1,000

$24,000

$50K

$2,000

$48,000

$100K

$3,000

$97,000

$150K

$4,500

$145,500

  • BrightPlus: your highest point is the highest equity you reached, in real time, including open profit. The floor moves up the moment your equity makes a new high.

  • BrightCore: your highest point is your highest daily close. The floor moves only once a day, while the market is closed, between 4:45 PM and 5:59 PM ET. The breach check still runs all day.

Example: $50K BrightPlus

  • With an open trade, your equity reaches $51,500. The floor moves to $49,500 right away.

  • You close the trade at $50,800. The floor stays at $49,500.

  • 👉 If your equity touches $49,500, the account is breached.

Example: $50K BrightCore

  • Day 1 closes at $51,200, so the floor becomes $49,200 once it updates, while the market is closed.

  • On day 2 your equity drops to $49,300 during the day. That is still OK.

  • 👉 If your equity touches $49,200, the account is breached.

2. Watch equity, not just balance

Balance counts closed trades only. Equity is your balance plus open profit or loss. The breach check runs on your live equity, including open trades. If it touches the floor at any moment, even for a second, the account is breached right away.

Example: reading Current, $50K BrightPlus

  • Current = equity minus highest point. It is $0 or a negative number.

  • Your highest point is $51,500 and your equity is $50,500. Current is −$1,000.

  • 👉 You breach when Current reaches the full MLL amount, −$2,000. That is equity $49,500.

3. Know when your floor locks

In SIM Funded, the floor stops trailing for good at your starting balance + $100. In the Evaluation it never locks. Read When does my Max Loss Limit lock?

4. Check your max contracts

1 mini = 10 micros. The limit is combined: if you mix minis and micros, they count together in mini equivalents. For example, on $50K, 2 minis and 20 micros together are 4 mini equivalents, which is the limit.

Size

Max contracts

$25K

2 minis or 20 micros

$50K

4 minis or 40 micros

$100K

8 minis or 80 micros

$150K

12 minis or 120 micros

5. Do not hold overnight or over the weekend

  • All open positions are closed at market price at 4:45 PM ET, Monday to Friday, on all accounts.

  • Every trade lives inside one session. There is no overnight or weekend holding.

  • ✅ Auto close is never a breach.

6. Do not hedge

Hedging is a long and a short open at the same time on the same instrument, or on instruments of the same group. It counts in one account or across your own accounts. A different expiry counts. Mini vs micro counts. Instruments from different groups are fine.

Example

  • Long ES and short MES at the same time is a hedge.

  • Long ES and short CL is OK, they are in different groups.

  • 👉 1st time on an account: soft breach (1 in the Evaluation, and 1 for the whole life of a SIM Funded Account; a reset does not give it back). You get a warning email, the hedged positions are closed and their profit is removed. The account keeps trading.

  • 👉 2nd time on the same account: hard breach. The account is closed with the message Hedging rule violated. You can reset the same account or buy a new account.

⚠️ If a hedge is between two of your accounts, both accounts take the breach, and each account receives its own soft breach (1 soft breach per account).

7. Know the rules that never breach you

These rules do not close your account. They only delay your pass or your payout request.

  • Minimum Trade Duration: more than 50% of your winning profit must come from trades you held longer than 15 seconds. In the Evaluation it blocks the pass. In SIM Funded it blocks the payout request.

  • Consistency Rule (Evaluation only): your best trading day net profit divided by your total net profit must be at or below 40% on BrightCore or 50% on BrightPlus. It never fails the account. It only delays the pass.

  • ✅ Reaching the profit target is also never a breach.

8. Open at least 1 new trade on time

  • Evaluation: at least 1 new trade every 30 calendar days.

  • SIM Funded: at least 1 new trade every 7 trading days. Holidays do not count.

  • Only opening a new trade counts. Closing, editing or pending orders do not.

  • You get a warning email before. If you miss it, it is always a hard breach: the account is deactivated with the message Deactivated (Inactivity), never a soft breach. You can reset the same account or buy a new account.

9. If you do breach: the reset time

  1. Check the reason on your dashboard.

  2. You can reset the same account or buy a new account. You have a limited time to reset at 45% off the full list price. Check the time left directly on your dashboard.

  3. A reset is available for a breached account, whichever stage it was in. The account keeps the same account number and you always receive a Challenge.

  4. When the reset time ends, the Reset button disappears. To continue, you buy a new challenge at the normal price, with a new account number.
