Can I trade the news?

News trading is fully allowed. What you are free to do, what is not allowed, what happens if we find it and how we review accounts.

Yes. News trading is fully allowed on all BrightFunded Futures accounts, in the Evaluation and in SIM Funded.

You can trade before, during and after any economic release, including CPI, NFP and FOMC. There is no news window, no blackout period and no rule that closes your positions around a release.

We do not tell you how to trade. We only ask three things: trade the way you would in a real market, follow the rules of your plan, and manage your risk well.

What you are free to do

Your trading style is your choice. On our accounts you can:

  • Trade any economic release, including high impact news.

  • Open, hold or close positions right before, during or after a release.

  • Day trade or scalp.

  • Trade any instrument on our approved list, during regular trading hours.

  • Choose your own entries, exits, timing and position size, within the limits of your plan.

All other rules of your plan still apply, such as the Max Loss Limit (MLL), the Consistency Rule and the Minimum Trade Duration. You can find each of them in its own article in this Help Center.

What is not allowed

You are free to trade the market. You are not free to exploit the simulation.

Our Evaluation and SIM Funded Accounts run in a simulated environment with real market data. A simulation can never copy every detail of a live market. Any trade or strategy that profits from those differences, instead of from the market itself, is not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Exploiting the simulation. Taking profit from fills, prices or speeds that would not be possible in a live market. For example, fills with no slippage, fills at prices that were never really available, or delays in the price feed.

  • Trading price gaps for fills. Using gaps at the session open, after a halt, or during a sudden spike to get fills at prices a live market would not give you.

  • Trading without liquidity. Trading contracts, months or hours with very low volume or a thin order book, where the simulated fill is better than a real one would be.

  • Single direction bets. Placing very large, all or nothing positions, often around a release, where the account either hits the target or fails in one move, with no real risk plan behind it.

  • Opposite or coordinated trading. Hedging between your own accounts is a breach, see Hedging and correlated instruments. Coordinated trading with other people goes to Risk review.

  • Tools built to exploit. Using software, bots or any other tool designed to take advantage of the platform or its data.

  • Any other practice that, in our view, does not reflect real trading in a live market.

⚠️ A simple test: if a strategy only works because the account is simulated, it is not allowed.

What happens if we find it

If we find an exploit of the simulation, the profit from those trades is removed from your account. This is not a breach, and your account stays active. Other practices on this list go to Risk review.

  • Only the profit from the affected trades is removed. Any loss from those trades stays on the account.

  • Your other trades are not affected.

  • In an Evaluation, removed profit does not count toward your profit target.

  • In a SIM Funded Account, removed profit does not count toward your payout. If it was already included in a payout, we may deduct it from future payouts.

After the adjustment, you keep trading as normal. We will let you know which trades were affected and why.

How we review accounts

We check every account with automated tools and manual reviews by our risk team.

We may flag any account, at any time, when its trading looks like an exploit, a single direction bet, or any other pattern that does not reflect real trading. A flag is not a penalty. It means our risk team takes a closer look.

  • Each case is reviewed on its own, based on the full trading history of the account.

  • The final decision on any review is ours.

  • Repeated or serious abuse may lead to further action under our Terms and Conditions.

This article explains our approach in simple words. The full list of prohibited practices is in our Terms and Conditions, and the Terms and Conditions always take priority over this article.

Frequently asked questions

Can I trade NFP, CPI or FOMC?

Yes. There are no news restrictions on any release.

Do I have to close my trades before a news release?

No. You can hold positions through any release.

I made a big profit on a news move. Is that a problem?

Not by itself. Big wins on real market moves are part of trading. We look at how a trade was filled, not at the size of the win.

Will I lose my account if a trade is flagged?

No. If a trade is confirmed as an exploit, its profit is removed and your account stays active.

How do I know my trading is fine?

Trade the way you would with your own money in a live market, and follow the rules of your plan.

I do not agree with a review. What can I do?

Contact our support team. We will explain the decision and look at any information you send us.
